For thousands of years, the sun was respected for giving life and maintaining health. It was widely used for its therapeutic value for a variety of diseases. If you are avoiding the sun, for fear of developing skin cancer and premature aging…STOP! Natural sunlight is a critical part of disease prevention and children especially, need adequate exposure to sunlight for proper development!
Sunlight is the best source of Vitamin D, which is produced naturally when the sun’s rays touch your skin. Vitamin D is essential for your health and the proper functioning of your organs and cells. The fear of sun exposure has led us to a silent epidemic of Vitamin D deficiency, which leads to all sorts of health problems and dis-ease.
Here’s what you need to know:
Excessive exposure to the sun without protection, and repetitive sunburn can increase your risk of skin cancer. However, when using common sense in the sun…proper sunlight exposure improves health and prevents disease.
Ditch the toxic sunscreen! Many sunscreen ingredients include carcinogens, hormone disruptors, nano-particles, allergens, harsh preservatives and skin irritants. Did you know that one full body application of the average chemical sunscreen provides the equivalent to a dose of hormonal replacement therapy for menopausal women. CRAZY!!!
Conventional sunscreens only block UVB rays, which are beneficial in appropriate doses for Vitamin D production.
Don’t spend too much time in the sun without protection. Use hats and light clothes when necessary, and for prolonged periods use non-toxic sunscreens.
Here are two of my favorites:
- Keeki Pure & Simple
- Young Living Mineral Sunscreen
If you do happen to get sunburn…this is what I recommend:
- Raw Aloe Vera Gel (Not the green or blue bottles you get from the store)
- Lavender Essential Oil
- Apple Cider Vinegar spray on the skin (restore the pH of the skin to normal and expedites the healing process)
